Step one of the off-season is in full swing, as are the Cleveland Browns added talent to their roster this week during NFL Free Agency. What better time for a 2023 NFL mock draft? The Browns had to rebuild their defensive line for Jim Schwartz and added an impressive young pass rusher as well as three defensive tackles including Dalvin Tomlinson.
After adding Juan Dornhill on Thursday the 2023 NFL draft for the Browns will likely be eyed beyond 2023. Having filled most of the holes in the starting lineup in free agency, the team doesn’t need rookies to play important roles, barring injuries. Let’s look ahead to some young players who could become important role players in Cleveland.
Round 2, pick 42: BJ Ojulari, Edge, LSU

The Browns have improved the pass rush and are unlikely to be looking for a starter in the draft. You can never have too many pass rushers though, and when a talent like BJ Ojulari falls into their lap, they should jump at it. Ojulari is a top athlete with a great blast off the line and an impressive curve coming out.
His technique needs tweaking, but the raw talent and athleticism are worth it. Getting an athlete like this for Jim Schwartz to progress over Myles Garrett would be a great second-round result.
Round 3, pick 98: Tyler Scott, wide receiver, Cincinnati
Cincinnati Bearcats wide receiver Tyler Scott
The Browns still need a dynamic playmaker from the slot that can challenge a team vertically at elite speed. That’s exactly what they get Tyler Scott from Cincinnati who is a big game waiting to happen. He has the body control to match his speed, which allows him to create separation and run away from defenses.
Round 4, Pick 111: Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, cornerback, TCU
TCU cornerback Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson
The Browns have a lot of talent in corner position, but they’re still missing a true nickel corner. The Greg Newsome experiment inside didn’t go well and he has expressed his wish not to play inside. Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson has the versatility to play in the slot and play safe and is an elite athlete despite being too short at 5ft 9.
Athletic and fast against the athletic and fast slot players, he can cover the entire field at any level. He’s a lithe runner who can tilt his hips instantly but struggles to fight in the open field. He is a lockdown man reporting player who could develop a great slot defender.
Round 4, Pick 126: Keondre Coburn, DT, Texas
Texas Longhorns defenseman Keondre Coburn
Lx18545
Keondre Coburn is a massive 6ft 2, 343lb nose tackle who can eat blocks and double teams. He has a quick first step off the line of scrimmage that blows through the whistle on every rep and therefore puts in a lot of effort. He anchors the middle of the line in the running game and can close the gap with his speed for his size.
Round 5, Pick 141: Zack Kuntz, TE, Old Dominion
Mandatory Credit: James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports
Zack Kuntz absolutely ripped the combine and turned out to be an incredible athlete. On day three of the draft, if you’re trying to give a player a shot, you’re going to have to take a chance on traits and a guy with perfection Relative Athletic Score out of 10 is exactly the risk you are taking. He’s a great height of 6’7 and 255 pounds and is also a willing blocker.
Round 5, pick 143: Jaxson Kirkland, OL, Washington
Mandatory Credit: Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports
The Browns love versatile offensive linemen who move well in space, like Washington’s Jaxson Kirkland. Kirkland got his first experience with both right and left defense during his college degree, which excelled at pass protection. They can always field solid offensive linemen, and Kirkland would be the quality depth that has time to develop with Bill Callahan.
Round 6, pick 189: Keaton Mitchell, RB, East Carolina
Mandatory Credit: Vasha Hunt-USA TODAY Sports
Keaton Mitchell is an explosive open field runner with the speed to get past defenses. He has good vision and patience as a runner able to find cutback lanes for big wins. Its acceleration could be better as it takes a while to get up to speed, but when it does, it can fly.
Round 7, pick 230: Clayton Tune, QB, Houston
Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports
The Browns could turn to the draft to find competition for Kellen Mond, who is trying to land the role of backup quarterback. Clayton Tune is a good athlete, using his legs to both lengthen plays and put distance to the ground. He doesn’t have a very large arm, but his short and medium accuracy is pretty good.
