On this day: Boston defeats the Heat, Hawks, Hornets and Houston

To this day in Boston Celtics history, the Boston Celtics have had quite a bit of success against regular-season opponents since the season they won Banner 17. Most recently, the Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 101-96 on March 19, 2014 as Boston began rebuilding in earnest.

A LeBron James-less heat was caught off guard by the Massachusetts franchise at TD Garden, with point guard Rajon Rondo and forward Jeff Green securing the win with late heroics. James was sitting due to back spasms but that was to take away from the win as both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh played and lost against a superior Celtics team.

Boston also defeated the Atlanta Hawks 79-76 on this day in 2012 and stole an away win with a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter powered by Ray Allen’s sharpshooters.

Allen scored 19 points and shot 4 of 6 from 3-point range, and Kevin Garnett added 16 points and 8 rebounds.

“We could have been easily beaten tonight,” Allen said via Associated Press. “We took their hit and we countered.”

On this day in 2011, the Celtics were defeated by the then-New Orleans Hornets 89-85, with Allen making another late push to steal the win.
