Joe Rogan spoke about transgender athletes, specifically transgender women, competing against biological women in sports in the latest episode of his podcast on Tuesday.
Rogan spoke to physician Peter Attia about the physical size of professional athletes on The Joe Rogan Experience. The comedian pointed out that “equality doesn’t exist physically,” which prompted him to address the recent emergence of transgender athletes in sport.
“That’s why we have weight classes. So we should have the difference between women and men competing, which is why this trans athlete thing blows my mind – how many people are in it?” said Rogan. “It just blows my mind.”

Rogan mentioned Lia Thomas and how she won the women’s 500 meter event for the University of Pennsylvania at the NCAA Swimming Championships.
“Swimming, I mean Lia Thomas is still the number one swimmer in the world and it’s a biological male. Period. End of discussion. It’s insane. Not only that, hasn’t even removed the penis and has Sex with women apparently,” Rogan said. “Only the whole thing is so crazy that you can call yourself a woman and then you’re a woman. And this has nothing to do with trans rights. It only has to do with people.
“There’s a reason we make a difference, why men are now allowed to compete in the women’s division. If you can just decide that you’re a woman, and you compete in a women’s division, and nobody’s allowed to regulate that means, and you have a problem with that, you’re transphobic. It has nothing to do with transphobia. We’re talking about fairness in sport. It’s crazy. It’s absolutely insane that this is still the case.”

Rogan, Attia and producer Jamie Vernon spoke about last year’s FINA ruling that only allowed swimmers who transitioned from male to female before the age of 12 to compete. World Athletics recently issued a similar ruling for track and field competitions.
“It’s just a bloody crime what they did to the other girls who are going against them,” he said. “It’s terrible. Imagine you are a natural woman, you work, you are an – off. You are fully committed to being the best of the best. You meet all your I’s and transcend all your T’s. You watch your diet. You watch your recovery. You fucking try. And that person who just decides that she’s a woman whose body has been coursing with testosterone all her life – just dominates her. It’s f– – maddening.”

Rogan said there are many other issues to deal with than another culture war.

“We are a society that needs a real problem,” he added. “We focus on these damn, very strange issues and decide that by allowing these people to express their truth, we will right all the injustices and inequalities in the world. They promote mental illness. They encourage. They promote mass ideology — that ideological grasp of an entire culture where people know things aren’t true. You know it’s not right. You know it’s not correct. They know it’s not scientifically true, and yet people need to stand up for these specific things because if they don’t, they’ll be labeled as transphobic. It’s bloody wild.”
