“It’s going to be great” – LIV Golf’s Bubba Watson looks forward to the Masters Champions Dinner

Bubba Watson speaks to the media ahead of the Boston leg of the LIV Golf Invitational Series

Bubba Watson says it will be great to be able to attend the Champions Dinner at the Masters and see his former PGA Tour buddies again – because “when you wear the Green Jacket to dinner, everything goes out the window,” so he’s not afraid of any negative vibes.

Watson will take his place Scottie Scheffler’s Masters Dinner alongside fellow LIV golfers and former Masters champions Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia and Charl Schwarzel.

The divide in golf has caused many arguments between players past and present, but Watson believes that is the case when the champions of the past gather Augusta National It will be in a friendly atmosphere.

Scheffler even joked about it Watson would sit at his own table in the corner, but Watson says if there’s ever a time to put differences aside, it’s at this iconic venue at the inaugural Major of the Year as part of a very special club.

The two-time Masters champion has no concerns about a possible frosty atmosphere between the two camps when they meet for the Champions Dinner ahead of the Masters.

“I think it’s going to be great,” Watson said of the Champions Dinner. “I still talk to guys on the PGA Tour. I still talk to people who work on the PGA Tour. It was amazing communicating with them.

“I still get in touch on their birthdays, on Christmas. We’re still talking. I still watch and draw for my boys. So I can’t wait to get there because if you wear the green jacket at dinner, everything goes out the window.

“You know how blessed you are to be in this room and how grateful you are to be in this room. I’ve already spoken to guys and we can’t wait to hang out because I haven’t seen Ted Scott in a while.”

And Watson, a self-confessed picky eater, gave the defending champion and host Scheffler’s menu a big thumbs-up after revealing he usually eats beforehand if he doesn’t like the menu.

“I can’t wait for the food. I’ll give you a secret, I usually eat beforehand, have some burritos before I go to dinner because I don’t know what they’re going to have,” Watson admitted. “I’m very picky when it comes to food.

“But when I saw his menu, I really want the dessert and I really want some sliders. So yes, I can’t wait. It will be fun.”

However, there are a few players that it’s best to sit apart with during the Champions Dinner Fred Couples notably rips Mickelson and Garcia in a recent speech.

The 1992 Masters champion called Mickelson a “maniac” and Garcia a “clown” in his recent outburst, so it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall if they meet again in Augusta.
