Formerly in the top 4 for 2024 QB Samaj Jones, expect a return visit this summer

April 8th is a big day for the Oklahoma Sooners. 2024 quarterback prospect Michael Hawkins plans to announce his college decision.

Choices are Oklahoma and the TCU Horned Frogs. Oklahoma has long been in a very favorable place with this recruitment and they can seal the deal and land the double threat quarterback.

Elsewhere, another 2024 quarterback is similarly high with the Sooners, as composite four-star QB 247Sports Samaj Jones listed Oklahoma among his top four schools.

Penn State looks like the leader in Jones’ recruitment. As a state school for the Pennsylvania native, it will be a lot harder for Oklahoma to pull off a recruiting win. West Virginia also appears to be a real threat to Land Jones.

Oklahoma offered Samaj Jones on March 1 and promptly received Jones’ visit over Future Freaks weekend. Despite Oklahoma’s standing at Hawkins, Jones could easily enter the class considering the Sooners could lose Dillon Gabriel and Davis Beville after this upcoming season.

While unlikely, it’s possible that Jones and Hawkins could both join the Sooners in 2024, similar to Alabama’s signing of two four-star QB prospects in the 2023 class. Both would be in contention for QBs in Oklahoma’s first season in the SEC to support Jackson Arnold.

“I might not commit until the first week of July,” Jones told 247Sports(Subscription required). “This is my time and I will stamp it now.”

Here’s what Jones had to say about Oklahoma:

My dream school for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching all the quarterbacks come out – Sam Bradford, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts are my favorite players. It’s a quarterback academy.

Playing in that environment and especially with them, moving to the SEC and just being with the people in this town, I think I’m prepared for that. A lot of guys don’t experience their specific dream school and this is my dream school. The best part is that it’s a great fit. – Samaj Jones to 247Sports

Jones’ thoughts on the Sooners indicate that Oklahoma is very important in his recruiting. He also plans to visit Oklahoma in the summer before his expected engagement date.
