Broadcaster March Madness is urging the producer not to air a rerun of the UCLA star twisting his ankle

Brendan Haywood, a former NBA center who won a championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, was heard urging his producers not to show a repeat of a brutal ankle injury sustained by a UCLA player Saturday night.

Bruins guard David Singleton got the inbounds pass from his teammate with about 23.3 seconds left in the game against Northwestern and landed awkwardly as he came to a jump stop. Singleton fell to the ground, writhing in pain, and it appeared he had twisted his ankle playing the game.

Haywood was heard asking the TV producer not to air a repeat.

“Please don’t show that again,” the former North Carolina standout said before the show aired the rerun again.

UCLA coach Mick Cronin said after the game that Singleton suffered a bad sprain and avoided a break.

Singleton said he’s broken his foot before and knows what that feels like.

“I knew it wasn’t that bad,” he said after the game. “I broke my foot before. I didn’t feel it burst or anything. It just hurt at the moment. I’m doing well.

Cronin added that he had memories of Kenyon Martin in 2000. Cronin was an assistant at Cincinnati when Martin, who went on to become the draft No. 1 pick, broke his leg before the tournament.

“I had flashbacks running out there with my hair all over my head in the spring of 2000 and playing Kenyon Martin there,” Cronin said. “Looks like he’s got a bad sprain. … I’m just glad he didn’t break his ankle. It’s been crazy for us here lately.”
