Twitter CEO Elon Musk predicted on Saturday that former President Donald Trump would be re-elected in a “landslide” if he was arrested next week on charges – or possibly “handcuffed”.
“If that happens, Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory,” Musk tweeted.
Musk was responding to a Fox News segment that detailed how the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has requested a meeting with law enforcement ahead of a possible indictment of Trump next week.
According to a court source, the meeting was requested for Thursday and was not scheduled. The meeting is “slated to discuss logistics for some time next week, which would mean they expect an indictment next week,” said the source familiar with the planning. The Secret Service is expected to take the lead on what it will and won’t allow — for example, deciding whether Trump should be handcuffed.

The possible charges stem from the lengthy investigation into Trump’s alleged payment of “hush money” to the actress Stormy Daniels. Toward the end of the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump’s then-attorney Michael Cohen sent Daniels $130,000 to prevent her from disclosing a 2006 affair with Trump. Trump repaid Cohen in installments. The office, headed by prosecutor Alvin Bragg, has been investigating the hush money scandal that took place in 2016 for five years.
On Saturday morning, Trump posted about the possible charges on Truth Social, stating that he would be “ARRESTED TUESDAY.”

The Manhattan Attorney’s Office, asked for comment Friday, would not “confirm or comment” on the upcoming indictment.
The possibility of an indictment sparked renewed conversation online about how it might affect Trump’s 2024 White House bid, and renewed claims by Trump allies that the probe was politically motivated.

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a vocal anti-Trump opponent, fired back: “If you break the law, you go to jail. Whomp whomp marj.”
Author Scott Adams shared Musk’s view that the indictment could increase Trump’s chances of being elected.

“If you handcuff Trump, he’s your next president,” he said.
Others weren’t so sure. Washington Post columnist Gregory Sargent noted that there had been similar predictions about scandals coming up against Trump that had not come true.
“Once again, we are being told that holding Trump accountable for corruption/crimes will lead to GOP victories. But that didn’t happen. People said impeachment would spark a backlash, but he lost Reelex,” he said. “People said a 1/6 committee would cause backlash but Rs dramatically underperformed in 2022.”
