Trump allies ramp up attacks on DeSantis ahead of 2024: ‘He’s not ready to be president’

The top super-PACs supporting former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are ramping up attacks in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

In an ad running on national cable TV Friday, Trump-affiliated MAGA Inc. is targeting DeSantis — who has yet to announce a presidential bid — for his past support as a congressman for Social Security and Medicare cuts.

“Think you know Ron DeSantis? Think again,” says the narrator of the commercial. “In Congress, DeSantis voted three times to cut Social Security.”

“The more you see about DeSantis, the more you see that he doesn’t share our values. He’s not ready to become president,” the narrator accuses at the end of the spot.

The ads will appear on Fox News Channel, CNN and Newsmax, with MAGA Inc. spending just over $1.3 million to run the spots for a week, according to national ad-tracking firm AdImpact. It is the Super PAC’s first paid media attempt to target DeSantis.

Trump started his third run in the White House in November and remains the clear front-runner in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. DeSantis, who currently sits on the 2024 sidelines, is expected to declare his candidacy for the White House sometime this spring or summer. He sits firmly in second place in recent polls, behind Trump but well ahead of the rest of the field of declared and potential GOP presidential candidates.

DESANTIS ALLIES CLAIM THAT THE FLORIDA GOVERNOR CAN “LIVE RENT FREE” IN TRUMP’S MIND

The former president and his political team view DeSantis as the biggest threat in the burgeoning field of 2024, and Trump has been lashing out at the Florida governor for months, with those attacks escalating in recent weeks.

MAGA Inc.’s attack comes days after the recently launched pro-DeSantis super PAC Never Back Down surfaced with a video titled “Waco Crickets,” which highlighted media reports pointing to the loud and boisterous crowd at the Trump Rally last weekend in Waco, Texas, mostly went silent as the former president repeatedly attacked the Florida governor.

The video, first shared with Fox News, was the first shot of Never Back Down targeting Trump.

Sources close to DeSantis have said that a presidential campaign would begin in late spring or early summer after the end of the current Florida legislature. However, the governor’s recent stops in the states of Iowa and Nevada with early voting and a trip to New Hampshire next month are sparking more speculation for 2024.
