The NBCUniversal-supported streamer has issued a season 3 renewal for its reimagining of Will Smith’s lover The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral short film, the dramatic version of the former comedy series was originally picked up by Peacock with a two-season order following a competitive bidding process with other streamers vying for the series.

The third-season renewal marks the first vote of confidence beyond that original order, and follows a wave of showrunner changes as the drama struggled to find its creative voice. Carla Banks Waddles was recruited as showrunner early in the second season. The good girls And The soul man Alum was promoted from co-executive producer to showrunner, replacing TJ Brady and Rasheed Newson (Army women, lie to me) at the top of Bel Air. Brady and Newson were trained last year under Houston and Malcolm Spellman (Falcon and Winter Soldier) and piloted the first season as her first showrunning job. Peacock, who doesn’t release traditional viewership data, says Bel Air launched as the most-watched original premiere and ranks as the most-watched second series since the service’s debut.
