Former first daughter Mali Obamais poised to make her television debut as a writer on the Amazon Prime Video Show swarm co-designed by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers (who also worked together on the Hulu series Atlanta). The thriller series stars Dominique Fishback, Chloe Baileyand now, Billie Eilish, who makes her acting debut with an appearance in Episode 4 as Eva, a cult leader for white women. Obama also snagged her first credit as a writer with an episode titled: girl bye
Nabers, who also acts as showrunner of the series, tells entertainment tonight that Obama’s episode does not disappoint. “[‘Girl, Bye’] is probably one of the wildest episodes,” she added. “I think it will surprise a lot of people. It’s pretty stupid. I’m really proud of it.”
The series, which is now streaming on the platform, is fiction in every episode, despite its cheeky opening title: “This is not fiction.” It follows a young woman named Dre (Fishback), who is an obsessive Houston-based fan, who undertakes major violence for her favorite R&B artist, Ni’Jah, following an unexpected trauma involving her sister, Marissa (Bailey).

Co-written by Nabers and Obama, “Girl, Bye” comes halfway through the series as things get increasingly twisted with each person (played by some familiar faces, including Khalid, Kiersey Clemons, Paris Jackson and more) Dre encounters on her destructive way to her idol.
“Some of their pitches were wild as hell, and they were just so good and so fun,” Nabers said of the former first daughter. “She’s an incredible writer. She brought a lot to the table… She’s really, really dedicated to her craft.
Obama got her first experience in the production industry when she first internd on set Girlfollowed by a stint as a production assistant Hall Berry‘s series extent. She got her big break when Glover recruited her to write for swarm.
“She’s just an incredibly talented person,” Glover told vanity fair last year. Impressed with her craft, he added, “She’s really focused and works really hard. I feel like she’s just someone who’s going to have really good things soon… Her writing is great.”
“It was like family,” Nabers said, referring to how Malia was “just folded in.” [the group]She continued, “I’m really excited that everyone can learn about her work and the work of the writers on one show.”
