Time to get more sand for the hourglass. Days of Our Lives has been renewed for two more seasons by Peacock, meaning the iconic soap opera will make it into at least its 60th season.
“Days of Our Lives” moved to Peacock in September, having previously aired on NBC since 1965. Days was NBC’s longest-running drama series before switching to Peacock in 2022.
More of diversity
This new two-year deal for seasons 59 and 60 marks a much quicker and quieter renewal for “Days” than in recent years, when the deal between NBC and Sony Pictures Television (which distributes the soap) always seemed to end up on the cable. As soap opera ratings dwindled, it was an ongoing issue at the networks (where the network count is now just three—two on CBS and one on ABC).
In 2021, production on “Days” was paused as NBC and Sony negotiated an extension — which ended up leading to a two-year hiatus that kept the show running until 2023.
But the Peacock move appears to have sparked renewed enthusiasm for the show at NBCU. Peacock reports that the Sudser was “a consistently top 10 title” on the streamer. This is the first time the show has had a renewal since moving to Peacock, as the past season 58 was actually part of the previous NBC deal.
Days of Our Lives is produced by Corday Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ken Corday is executive producer and Albert Alarr is co-executive producer, while Ron Carlivati serves as head writer.
“Days” recently won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Daytime Drama. The show has received 61 Emmy Awards and 392 nominations over the course of its run. It is also a multiple winner of People’s Choice Awards, GLAAD Media Awards and Prism Awards.
Days of Our Lives is set in the fictional Midwestern town of Salem and revolves around the nuclear families of the Bradys, Hortons, Carvers, DiMeras and Kiriakises. The main stars include Lamon Archey, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Martha Madison, Eric Martsolf, Marci Miller, Stephen Nichols, James Reynolds, Suzanne Rogers, Josh Taylor, Robert Scott Wilson and Arianne Zucker.
Peacock previously aired the spin-off Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem for two seasons and the 2021 spin-off film Days of Our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas.
